In the wake of the shooting at the Santa Fe High School in Texas, ABC talk-show host Jimmy Kimmel seized the opportunity on his show to attack President Donald Trump, other politicians and the NRA.
From The Hill:
“President Trump said that he is with the people of Santa Fe in this tragic moment and that he will be with them forever, except when it’s time to do something and then he will not be with them,” Kimmel said on his show Friday.
“Neither will any of the congresspeople or governors that won’t ever do anything because they fear it will hurt them politically,” he continued.
The late-night host said lawmakers are “too cowardly” to take action because “they care more about the support of the [National Rifle Association] than they do about children.”
“So they sit there with their hands in their pockets, pockets full of gun money, and they wait for the outrage to pass because it didn’t happen to their children,” Kimmel said.
His answer? He called on people to get out and vote. And he wasn’t talking for Republicans.
“Our leaders right now seem to think that everything is fine. It’s not fine,” he said.
“I don’t know about you, but I for one am very, very tired of this,” Kimmel said, before airing a clip of Trump, Vice President Pence and other Republicans defending the Second Amendment interspersed with clips of student survivors describing Friday’s shooting.
He doesn’t explain what law would have stopped the Santa Fe shooter. The shooter didn’t use an AR-15, an ‘assault weapon.’ Most mass shooters don’t. He used a shotgun and a revolver, yet he was still able to kill 10 people and injure 10 others. He didn’t buy the guns legally, again many mass shooters don’t so no background checks or laws would have been applicable.
And he also had explosives which certainly are already illegal and wouldn’t be covered by any gun control laws.
Just “Do Something!” “Even if what I’m calling for wouldn’t do anything, just do it!”
People weren’t buying it.
This is how the left operates, all on emotion, whether or not there’s any sense or logic to it.
One of the few things that would have actual immediate result would be hardening the schools and providing more armed security. And while school shootings are rare events, the schools can make that decision to protect themselves in the event the lightning strikes.
