On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders criticized the Philadelphia Eagles, accusing the team of inventing a “political stunt” that forced the president to cancel the team’s White House visit.
Sanders slammed the Eagles during her press briefing after ABC’s Jonathan Karl asked if President Trump was aware that none of the Eagles ever took a knee to protest the country during the national anthem during the 2017 season.
Sanders went off on Karl:
“There were 80 members of the Eagles’ organization that RSVPd and committed to attend this event as recently as Friday as well as over 1,000 fans of the Eagles’ organization,” Sanders said from the podium. “The Eagles, are the ones that tried to change their commitment at the 11th hour and the president frankly thinks that the fans deserve better than that and therefore we changed the ceremony to be a focus on celebrating our great country.”
Somehow thinking he could speak for the team, Karl kept interrupting saying that it wasn’t a stunt.
Sanders pounced again:
“Look, if this wasn’t a political stunt by the Eagles’ franchise then they wouldn’t have planned to attend the event and backed out at the last minute,” Sanders insisted. “If it wasn’t a political stunt then they wouldn’t have attempted to reschedule the visit when they knew the president was going to be overseas and if this wasn’t a political stunt they wouldn’t have waited until Monday, well after 1,000 of their fans had traveled and taken time out of their schedules to offer only a tiny handful of representatives to attend the event.”

Of course, this whole argument that the Eagles didn’t protest in 2017 is not really correct. Yes, none of them took a knee in 2017. But star Malcolm Jenkins still raised a militant black power fist during the anthem throughout the year in 2016 and a few more times early in the 2017 season.
So, as the media tries to fool America into believing that the Eagles never protested during the anthem, the truth is that they did protest. And that is exactly the feeling the media is trying to fool America into thinking. They are trying to make America think the Eagles never protested. But this is simply false. They did.
And they’re protesting the Trump’s position that one should stand for the anthem by not showing up at the event.
Once again the media is pushing a fake news lie and trying to use it to push their left-wing agenda.
For reference, The New York Times published a story this year speaking about Jenkins’ protests.
The paper even posted this photo to prove the point:
