As many of us are finding during the coronavirus pandemic, working from home presents a unique set of challenges. While it is nice to be able to start and stop work when you want without your manager asking where you have got to, staying motivated at home is not always that straightforward. Whether it is difficulty in finding a quiet space to work, trouble with keeping to a timetable or getting distracted by social media, you may find that your productivity falls off a cliff. To help you get through your workload in as short a time as possible, we have put together this useful set of tips.
- Find a Quiet Spot
As we all know, home is full of distractions. These distractions can make it difficult to separate home and work life and settle down to work. Escape from your roomies, partner or pets by holing up in a quiet corner with your laptop and do not come out until you absolutely need to. If you do not have an office, set up an area in a secluded spot with everything that you are going to need for the day.
- Tidy Your Workspace
A tidy desk is a tidy mind. Before you start work every day, spend a few minutes getting your workspace in order. A tidy workspace is conducive to productivity and will help to get your brain into gear from the moment you get down to work.
- Go to Bed and Get Up Early
It can be easy to slip into the habit of waking up later than you normally would when you are not forced to make an appearance at your job. The key to getting up early and avoiding the wastage of valuable morning working time is to go to bed earlier.
- Set a Schedule
The importance of setting a schedule every day cannot be overstated. As mentioned before, it is all too easy to allow your work and home lives to merge when working from home. To stop this from happening, you should clearly define the hours that will make up your working day and stick to them strictly. This means knowing when to call it a day and put your feet up.
- Set Goals
Setting clear objectives can provide you with something to strive for. At the start of every day, spend a few minutes brainstorming what you would like to get done and write each thing as a goal on a piece of paper. Allot each goal a time period and watch your productivity grow as you tick each one off.
Most people find staying productive when working from home to be a bit of a struggle. However, if you take a few extra measures such as those described above, you will find that your productivity levels will soar. It is just a case of taking some extra responsibility and organizing yourself in ways that will cut down on distractions and help you get into the zone.
